The Guild of Investment and Financial Analysts - GIFA


The Guild of Investment and Financial Analysts - GIFA was established in 1998 as an independent, non-profit partnership of Russian financial and investment analysts performing activities in the area of finance management, investment planning, consulting and appraisal. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation proposed the creation of the Guild, which brings together individuals and professional associations of financial analysts in Russia. At the end of 1998 GIFA has entered EFFAS and from 2001 it is a member of ACIIA.


Professional activity of GIFA members

Participants of the Guild are principally involved in the investment industry performing fundamental, technical and quantitative analysis, planning, appraisal and management of investments. They may be involved in either direct or indirect investments. In the investment profession, members of the Guild may work for investment funds, banks, insurance companies and firms involved in analysis, consulting and auditing. They also work with universities and business schools.


General Objectives

To raise the standards of financial and investment analysis services, through training and accreditation of analysts according to the international requirements, introduction and support of the International Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for the profession.

To support creation of a developed investment market in Russia, development and improvement of rules and regulations in the investment community within Russia.

To bring together specialists in the field of investment and their professional organizations, to enhance relations between them and develop international co-operation with the communities of investment professionals of other countries.


Main Current Activities

GIFA has started in 2002 the certification of investment professionals, obtaining new international qualification "Certified International Investment Analyst - CIIA". Introduction of that qualification is an important part of development of national training and certification system for investment professionals.

National Code of Ethics of Investment Professional is under development. GIFA Commission of Ethics has invited experts of leading in Russian capital market companies and created a working group. Codes of different developed countries and EFFAS materials are used by the experts for writing the Russian Code and GIFA Commission of Ethics is to continue it work for implementation the Code in practice.

GIFA organizes national and international conferences and round table discussion on the most important issues for Russian capital market and investment community development.

Introduction of CIIA qualification as well as the National Code of Ethics development activities are supported by federal authorities and Russian business society. GIFA co-operates with the Federal Commission of the Market of Securities, the Central Bank of Russia, the Committee of Financial Markets of the Council of Federation of Russian Parliament. The following leading investment companies and banks become official partners of GIFA in introduction of new qualification CIIA: "Brunswick UBS Warburg"(Russia), "CentroCredit Bank", "EUROFINANCE Bank", "HORIZON Investment Company", "REGION Investment Company", "LUKOIL-Reserv-Invest", "Pro-Invest IT". Other respectable institutions and firms, like "Baker&McKenzie", "National Association of Participants of the Russian Market of Securities (NAUFOR)", "International Centre for Accounting Reform", "Information Agency FINMARKET", provide informational, legal and other support to GIFA in the work.
