Swiss Society of Financial Analysts

Who are we?

  • The members of the Swiss Society of Financial Analysts and Portfolio Managers are those who work as Financial Analysts and/or Portfolio Managers.
  • Their activity in the initial phase is to analyse or evaluate financial instruments - essentially securities - and in the second phase, develop recommendations and/or investment decisions.
  • The Association assembles those who show marked interest for the Swiss financial market and/or security valuation.

What is our vocation?

  • The Association established a code of ethics comparable to those existing throughout the world, which it assesses, promotes and monitors. The Code of Ethics is contained in the training programme of the Association.
  • The Association ensures the promotion and defence of its professional interest (as well as for individual members). It also intervenes in Swiss or other national organisations which exerts influence on its functions.
  • The Association encourages Swiss firms to adopt and respect minimum information criteria based on international norms (financial reports, and contacts between enterprises and analysts). The objective is to improve the transparency in the Swiss financial market.
  • The Association encourages basic and continuous education and training by inducing its members to take advance study programmes and/or conferences in Switzerland or abroad.

How do we attain our objectives?

The recruitment of new members into the Association is according to requirements laid down in the statutes. The Association is strongly aimed at attracting all possible candidates who fulfil these requirements. The members are committed to help the Association reach its objectives and to respect the statutes.
The Association attains its objectives through work done by specialised commissions, which are:

The "Commission for the Training and Qualification of Financial Analysts and Portfolio Managers"

evaluates and draws up the minimum qualification requirements and maintains strong contact with universities and professionals. It assumes responsibility for advanced training by organising or recommending conferences, seminars and publications.

The "Shareholder Information Council of Expert"

makes qualitative and quantitative analysis on the basis of the information sent to shareholders by the main Swiss firms whose shares are quoted in the stock exchange. The commission works proactively by making in-depth analyses on trends concerning the establishment and presentation of accounts.

The "Commission on Bonds"

analyses the Swiss Bonds Market with the aim to improve understanding of the current practice and related problems in this domain. It also publishes a guide in collaboration with European colleagues.

The "Training Center for Investment Professional (TCIP)"

assures continuous education through a well developed training programme. The diploma obtained by successful candidates is recognised at both the Swiss Federal Government and by EFFAS.

The "Local Groups"

(Basle, Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich) are regional committees within the Association which meet informally to discuss professional issues. They also organise presentations by Swiss and foreign firms.

At the world level, members of the National Committee participate in the work of specialised commissions, in particular the Commissions of EFFAS (European Federation of Financial Analysts' Societies), and/or other professional commissions that deal with subjects related to the activities of the Association.

The Association communicates through an official organ, the Financial Markets and Portfolio Management. In parallel to this, the committee assures public relations of the Association and the promotion of the profession.
